Language Arts
The power of words is magnificent. Whether you're reading or writing, words have the power to change, to impact, and to provide, in a myriad of ways. Over the course of the school year, you will read a selection of novels, short stories, a Shakespearean play, various pieces of poetry, and even some magazine articles. You will learn a vast amount of new and exciting vocabulary, including honing your grammar skills. Daily journal writing and in-class reading will be a common routine. Thus, you will work on reading comprehension, examine literary elements, and practice your writing skills extensively. Exploring what makes words so powerful, why and how they're used in the context we will be studying, as well as, how they affect your own lives and how you use them on a daily basis, is our overall goal. This class will be a wonderful journey into the spoken word. My hope for you is, not only to learn about the different aspects of what makes up a language arts class, but also to find your own way of using words as a form of art, expressions, and inspiration in your own lives.
